Blaise Pascal, PenseĆ© 347: “Man is but a reed, the most feeble thing in nature; but he is a thinking reed. The entire universe need not arm itself to crush him. A vapor, a drop of water suffices to kill him. But, if the universe were to crush him, man would still be more noble than that which killed him, because he knows that he dies and the advantage which the universe has over him; the universe knows nothing of this. All our dignity consists, then, in thought. By it we must elevate ourselves, and not by space and time which we cannot fill. Let us endeavor, then, to think well; this is the principle of morality.”

The Fresno State Parking Lot Brand

As a measure of the faculty anger, not only at the destruction of trees in Parking Lots A, J, and UBC, but at the utter lack of consultation that led to it, see this website:

Unbrand Fresno State , where several people have begun a rebranding campaign of their own:

and
I like these better than the Winnie-the-Pooh style stationery we've been saddled with because they are closer to the truth.

The administration of Fresno State is so hopelessly out of touch with the values of the faculty, staff and students of this university that one wonders if some kind of 4th floor cognitive disability isn't involved. This has made itself apparent all year long, from Budget Task Force issues and prevarications, the slow extrusion of budget data to the community, the imposition of the logo, and now, most spectacularly, to the wreck of parking lots A, J, and UBC.

The fundamental dysfunction of Fresno State management is consistently, and in worse and worse ways, manifesting itself in action.
